Michigan has three main public pension fund boards:

  • The public school ORS board represents public school employees and consists of 12 members: 1 Ex Officio (State Superintendent of Education); 11 appointed by the Governor.
  • The police ORS board consists of 9 members: 5 Ex Officio (Attorney General, Office of the State Employer, State Treasurer, Department of State Police Director, Deputy Auditor General); 4 appointed by the Governor.
  • The State of Michigan Retirement Board provides oversight of the State Employees’ Retirement System Defined Benefit (DB) plan, the Judges Retirement System DB plan, and the Military Retirement Provisions; the board consists of 9 members: 4 Ex Officio (State Treasurer, State Personnel Director, Attorney General, Deputy Auditor General); 5 appointed by the Governor.
