Biography:

Dr. Dan Arvizu is a board member of State Farm. He started his career at Bell Labs, where he worked as a member of the technical staff from 1973-1977. He then spent 21 years at Sandia National Labs from 1977 to 1998, working in the following roles: Director of Materials and Process Sciences, Director of Advanced Energy Technology and Policy, Director of Technology Transfer and Policy, Manager of Technology Transfer, Supervisor of Photovoltaic Cell Research Division, Supervisor of Concentrator Research Division. In 1998, he joined CH2M Hill Companies, Ltd for 6 years and served as a CTO. In 2005, he was appointed the 8th Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado and after 11 years he retired in December of 2015, and is presently Director Emeritus. He was also twice Presidentially appointed (Bush in 2004, Obama in 2010) to serve on the National Science Board, the governing body of the National Science Foundation and twice confirmed by the full U.S. Senate. He served his last 4 years as the Chairman.
