Michelle Howard

Retired Admiral Michelle J. Howard has served on the Board of Directors for IBM since March 2019. She has also served on the Board of Visitors for the U.S. Naval Academy since 2022 and is on the Board of Directors for the Stimson Center. Previously she served as Chairman of the Naming Commission from March 2021 to October 2022 and was the J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Professor of International Affairs at George Washington University from 2018 to 2020. Prior to this she served in the United States Navy from 1982 to 2017, earning the rank of Rear Admiral (lower half) in September 2007, Rear Admiral in August 2010, Vice Admiral in August 2012, and Admiral in July 2014. She retired in 2017.
