Risk Level:
Summary:
A subsidiary of Visa, Authorize.Net is a payment gateway service provider that allows merchants to accept electronic payments. Authorize.net suddenly canceled a customer for legally selling firearms after years of doing business with the vendor. Its parent company, Visa, covers the cost of "medically necessary transition-related care” for its employees and their children and has supported the Equality Act. Through Visa, Autrhorize.Net vets vendors for their LGBTQ protections. Authorize.net does not provide viewpoint protections for its employees. For these reasons, Authorize.net receives a High Risk rating.
Has denied service to customers, suppliers, or vendors due to their political views or religious beliefs OR corporately boycotts, divests, or sanctions regions, people groups, or industries.
Authorize.net terminated its relationship with Hyatt Gun Shop in 2013 due to a then-recently instated company policy against selling firearms (1). Visa received a score of 100 on the Corporate Equality Index from the Human Rights Campaign. Among other requirements, this means Visa has pledged to vet vendors based on LGBTQ policies (2).

Employment policies fail to protect against discrimination based on political affiliation/views and/or religion.

Visa has a perfect score on the HRC’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index. This score indicates the company covers the cost of “medically necessary transition-related care” for its employees and their children (1)(2). Authorize.net does not use its independent corporate funds to advance ideological agendas, though Visa regularly supports ideological groups hostile to freedom of expression through gift matching (3).
