Instacart vets vendors according to LGBTQ policies and does not protect its employees against viewpoint discrimination. However, Instacart has not publicly terminated business relationships based on views or beliefs. The company covers the cost of "medically necessary transition-related care" for its employees and their children. Instacart has opposed state election security bills, hosts unconscious bias trainings, and supports the Equality Act. The company ended its financial relationship with the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) amidst political controversy. However, it does not discriminate against religious organizations in its charitable giving and does not lobby in an ideological manner. For these reasons, Instacart receives a Medium Risk rating.

Instacart terminated its donations to RAGA after the organization’s fundraising arm produced politically controversial robocalls after the 2020 election and signed an open letter condemning state election security bills (1)(2)(3)(4). The company has engaged in multiple acts of public advocacy with Pride organizations and the HRC (5)(6). Instacart requires all employees to attend unconscious bias training and is a member of the business coalition for the Equality Act (7)(8).
Uses corporate funds to advance ideological causes, organizations, or policies hostile to freedom of expression.
