D. James Umpleby III

D. James Umpleby has been the Chief Executive Officer of Caterpillar since 2017 and has served as the Chairman of the Board since 2018. Prior to these roles, Umpleby was the Group President of the Energy & Transportation segment at Caterpillar from 2013 to 2016 and served as Vice President and President of Solar Turbines, a Caterpillar subsidiary, from 2010 to 2012. He joined Solar Turbines in 1980 as an Associate Engineer. Umpleby has been a member of the Board of Directors at Chevron Corporation since 2018. He also serves on the Board of Directors at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, the US-China Business Council, and the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Additionally, Umpleby is a Trustee at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a member of the Business Roundtable, The Business Council, and the National Petroleum Council.
