Biography:

Alistair Darling joined the Board of Morgan Stanley in January 2016. He was a member of the House of Lords in the British Parliament from December 2015 to July 2020, a member of the House of Commons for Edinburgh South West from 2005 to 2015 and a member of the House of Commons for Edinburgh Central from 1987 to 2005. During his time in Parliament Mr. Darling held several leadership positions including Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2007 to 2010; Secretary of State for Trade and Industry from 2006 to 2007; Secretary of State for Scotland from 2003 to 2006; Secretary of State for Social Security/Work and Pensions from 1998 to 2002; and Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 1997 to 1998. Prior to this he worked as a solicitor and an advocate for the Scots Bar. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the abrdn Financial Fairness Trust; Chairman of the Board for Crosswind Developments; Chairman of the Board for International Valuation Standards Council; and is Honorary President of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House). Mr Darling passed away November 30th, 2023.
