Biography:

Dr. Greg Lavender has been the Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, and General Manager of the Software and Advanced Technology Group at Intel since June 2021. Prior to joining Intel, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at VMware from June 2018 to June 2021; Managing Director and Global Chief Technology Officer for Cloud Architecture and Technology Engineering for Citi from January 2012 to January 2018; and Cisco Systems’ Vice President of Engineering for Network Operating Systems Technology from July 2010 to January 2012. He was the Vice President of Engineering for Solaris Operating System at Sun Microsystems from September 2009 to June 2010; Senior Director of Engineering for Solaris Operating System from January 2008 to September 2009; Visiting Professor from June 2004 to January 2008; and Senior Director of Sun Open Networking Environment from March 2000 to May 2004. Dr. Lavender was a Visiting Lecturer at Stanford University from April 2009 to June 2009. He served as Associate Chairman in the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin from June 2004 to December 2007 and Adjunct Associate Professor from August 1994 to May 2004. He was Vice President of Engineering at Innosoft International, Inc. from February 1998 to March 2000; Chief Scientist at Critical Angle, Inc. from September 1997 to February 1998; Chief Scientist at Isode Ltd. from May 1994 to September 1997; Networking Research Scientist at Microelectronics and Computer Technology Consortium from February 1991 to May 1994; Consulting Network Engineer for Open Networks from June 1987 to December 1990; and a Network Software Engineer for TRW, Inc. from October 1983 to September 1986. Dr. Lavender has served on the Advisory Council for the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas since October 2022 and has been a member of the Board of Advisors since April 2022. He also serves as an advisor and on the Board of Trustees for the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
