John L. Thornton

John Thornton became a Board Member for the Ford Motor Company in 1996. He has also served as Executive Chairman of Barrick Gold since 2014. Mr. Thornton works on the Board for PineBridge Investments and serves as an advisory Board Member of China Investments Corporation and the China Securities Regulatory Commission. He also serves as the Co-Chair of The Brookings Institution and the Asia Society. Mr. Thornton began serving on the Board for Barrick Gold in May 2012. He has experience in a variety of institutions tied to China such as the China Investment Corporation, the Silk Road Finance Corporation, China Unicom Limited, The International Advisory Council of the Chinese, and the Confucius Institute. Mr. Thornton was a Board Member for HSBC from 2008 to 2013 and is currently the Director of the Global Leadership Program at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Mr. Thornton was one of the founding members of the Schwarzman scholars in 2013.
