Newmont, a gold mining and exploration company, terminated multiple employees who refused to receive the COVID-19 vaccine for religious reasons. The company has refused to acknowledge the requests. Newmont scored an 80 out of 100 on the 2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), a political stakeholder group. By complying with the HRC’s controversial demands, Newmont increases the risk of dividing employees, alienating customers and harming shareholders. The company provides a benefits package for employees which covers transgender medical procedures for covered employees and dependents, including children. It also uses sex and gender ideology criteria in employee recruitment, vendor selection, marketing, and philanthropic support. The company partnered with Paradigm for Parity which addresses the corporate leadership gender gap and sponsored the 2022 Global Business Leaders in Mining Diversity Conference. However, it has not used its political contributions for ideological purposes. For these reasons, Newmont receives a High Risk rating.
